Creating Music Covers

This project involved creating a series of illustrated music covers for indie singers, where the artwork needed to visually translate mood, rhythm, and emotion. Each cover began with deep collaboration with the artist, understanding the story behind the track, the feeling they wanted listeners to sit with, and the identity they were building. The illustration had to act as an emotional entry point to the music, setting the tone even before the first note was heard.

Illustrating Sound Through Visuals

I led the process end to end, from early concept sketches and mood exploration to the final painted cover. Color, lighting, and composition were treated as narrative tools—warm gradients for nostalgia, softer edges for introspection, and strong focal points to anchor the listener’s attention. Every visual decision was tied back to the song’s emotional arc, ensuring the artwork felt intentional rather than decorative.

Collaborative, Emotion-Driven Outcomes

What defines this work is the balance between creative collaboration and execution ownership. Working closely with musicians required constant alignment, feedback, and refinement to reach a shared vision. The final covers demonstrate my ability to drive a project from start to finish while using illustration to evoke emotion, build atmosphere, and create a visual identity that complements and elevates the music itself.
